SRIKANT PAUL
Srikanta Paul, born in 1971, is an accomplished artist with a strong foundation in both painting and printmaking. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Painting from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, in 1998, followed by a Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) in Printmaking from Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, in 2001, both with First Class honours. Paul's academic achievements laid the groundwork for a diverse artistic practice that spans multiple mediums and disciplines.
Paul’s career has been marked by his involvement in numerous prestigious group exhibitions, both nationally and internationally. Notable exhibitions include Hollow Times at Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC), Kolkata (2021); celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Society of Contemporary Artists at Akar Prakar, Kolkata (2019), and Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi (2020); Transform at Trondheim International Festival, Norway (2019); Fraternity and Aesthetics in World Art in Istanbul, Turkey (2018); and Black Hole at AM Studio, Kolkata (2018). His works have also been displayed at prominent venues such as Cymroza Art Gallery, Mumbai, in Through the Looking Glass (2008), showcasing his artistic versatility across different contexts and cultures.
In recognition of his contributions to printmaking, Paul was nominated for the prestigious Queen Sonja Print Award (QSPA), Norway, further establishing his reputation on the international stage. His dedication to the field has also been recognized through his National Scholarship, awarded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, from 2001 to 2003, supporting his early artistic development.
Paul has actively participated in various art events, festivals, and workshops, contributing to the discourse on contemporary art both within India and abroad. His work reflects a deep engagement with current societal issues, as seen in his participation in numerous group exhibitions that explore themes of transformation, aesthetics, and fraternity in global contexts. In addition to his artistic practice, Paul has also contributed to the field of education, having worked as a lecturer at the Institute of Fine Arts in Modinagar, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Srikanta Paul continues to live and work in Kolkata, where he remains an influential figure in the Indian contemporary art scene, continuously pushing the boundaries of printmaking and painting.
