SURENDER K. MISHRA

Born in 1974 in Madhubani, Bihar, Surender K. Mishra, is an influential figure in contemporary Indian art. His academic journey began at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, where he received significant recognition for his talent. He was awarded the Central Scholarship in 1999, followed by a Merit Scholarship in 2000, both of which supported his early artistic development. These achievements laid the foundation for his continued exploration of artistic expression.

Further advancing his practice, he pursued a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat, where he was honoured with the prestigious C.R. Dass Gupta Memorial Gold Medal in 2002. This period marked a crucial stage in his artistic career, helping to refine his technique and conceptual approach.

In 2004, he received the 46th National Academy Award from Lalit Kala Akademi, a significant milestone that acknowledged his contribution to the Indian art landscape. His work, deeply rooted in contemporary themes, reflects a nuanced understanding of cultural identity and artistic innovation, positioning him as a notable voice in the evolving discourse of modern Indian art.
