JAYASRI BURMAN
Jayasri Burman is an Indian contemporary artist born in Kolkata, 1960. She took her formal training from Kala Bhawan, Shantiniketan, West Bengal. Burman is a painter and sculptor as well. In her works, the represents of mythical stories, nature, miniatures, God & Goddesses, modern art. Her primary mediums are pen and ink, watercolour, charcoal, acrylic and mixed media. She is married to the eminent artist Paresh Maity, and her uncle, Shakti Burman, is a renowned artist. Her son is a photographer. Her works are very colourful and decorative. Her paintings often feature mythological themes, magical landscapes, and detailed flora and fauna with delicate lines. ‘Shimla Series’ is one of the famous series, which depicted and inspired by the nature of the beauty and culture heritage of Shimla. Her paintings in the Shimla series use bright colours and detailed designs to show the green landscape, tall mountains, and traditional buildings of the area. Her work in this series shows how she can turn ordinary landscapes into amazing worlds of imagination and beauty.
Burman's artwork has a dream-like and poetic quality. Inspired by Indian folk elements, her work reflects a deep sensitivity.
