Touchable Emotions Sculptures
by G.Reghu

January 08 – February 15, 2025

Beginning his career as a potter, Reghu’s practice evolved from functional stoneware into expressive ceramic and terracotta sculpture. This transition marked a fluid transformation in form, where the rounded volumes of vessels gradually assumed the contours of the human head and body. Rooted in tactile processes such as wheelwork, hollow modelling, slabbing, coiling, folding, and pinching, his technique reflects a deep engagement with indigenous materials and rural traditions.

Reghu’s sculptural language merges utilitarian origins with the vitality of living figures, resulting in works that carry strong emotional and psychological presence. His figures, characterized by bulging eyes, thick lips, and broad ears, draw from a synthesis of Dravidian and African visual vocabularies, while vibrant surfaces echo ancient tribal aesthetics traceable to the Indus Valley and Harappan civilizations. Alongside this ancestral grounding, his works convey subtle social satire, capturing recognizable human types drawn from everyday life.

The Exhibition was on view from January 08 to February 15, 2025 at Art Magnum, New Delhi.
