Haren Thakur

Haren Thakur devoted his life to cultivating a deeply personal artistic practice, shaped by his close engagement with the indigenous communities of Jharkhand. He received formal training at Shantiniketan, where he studied under renowned artists such as Ramkinkar Baij, Vinod Bihari, Somnath Hore, Dinkar Kaushik, Selim Munshi, and Sarbari Roy Choudhury, among others.

Drawing inspiration from the elemental forces of creation and the quiet landscapes of Jharkhand, he developed a distinctive visual language. Thakur identified underlying structural principles within tribal art and combined their geometric clarity with influences from Egyptian mural traditions of the Thutmosis IV period. Much of his work is realized in mixed media, notably on Nepalese rice paper, which enhances the tactile and meditative quality of his art.
