Ajay Ghosal
(1956)

Ajay Kumar Ghoshal was born in 1956 and educated at Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta.

Ajay Kumar Ghoshal believes that what he has to say is best said through figurative expressionism. He makes much use of the tone of contemporary activist street art, as is very apparent. The bold, striking colours, the well-defined and confidently-executed figures ad shapes, and indeed, the very whimsy of this symbology serve two purposes. The first is that they draw the viewer in, striking at and appealing to his natural appreciation of boldness. The second is simultaneously inviting him to think and to cue him in on the thought.

The paintings and represent some aspect or the other of the vision of the artist; they are not just impressions of what he has observed or felt. The fear of claustrophobia, of violence, of silence; these have all been seen and endured and processed, and the end results, confirmed to canvas, hang for all to see.
