Conflux:
A group exhibition featuring 10 Contemporary Artists
18th August – 12th September, 2023

Fine arts in the Indian context have gradually evolved at various stages, from the Bengal School to the Progressive Art Group to the Baroda School to the Madras Movement. Indian art history treasures many important art movements which gave direction and focus to numerous artists, nurtured them to shape vivid ideologies and their signature styles. Interestingly these schools had very little in common and were in many ways an antithesis to the others.
However, one thing that does figure prominently in all the Indian Art Movements is that inevitably nature and environment play a pivotal role. In this age of globalisation, it is significant to note that even in today’s context the relevance of environment and nature is unparalleled. This commonality is the crux of our show. The entire show is conceptualised to reflect the vibrant environments that these artists live in and how these environs shape their art.
The theme for the show is not restricted to a particular medium or subject. The term ‘Environment’ is not constrained to natural features or landscapes but can also find extensions to be addressed as streetscapes, cityscapes or even a mundane household utility object. Conflux showcases artworks of 10 contemporary artists from across India with varied sensibilities. Representing 4 artists who belong from Gujarat, where the famous Baroda school was founded, 3 artists represent the Bengal School, 2 from Southern India and 1 from the western part of India.
The show is an attempt to glorify the diversity that we as a nation endure. The objective behind choosing these artists from across the school is to see how different educational backgrounds and thought processes impact an artist and their art. This resulted in putting together an eclectic collection of artworks which is a visual treat to the art enthusiasts, collectors and connoisseur.
